It seems ludicrous that England is represented by an Uzbeki in the Miss World contest. She is an attractive girl but there were many attractive English girls who entered and it seems as if they have been 'stabbed in the back' in the organisers' suck up to the Muslim community. Now Miss Not England has refused to parade in a swimsuit, which suddenly is acceptable to the organisers.
ITN - No bikini round for Muslim Miss England
10.17AM, Fri Dec 9 2005
Britain's first Muslim Miss World contestant is making a few concessions for her religion during the event - she will parade in a sarong instead of the usual bikini.
Miss England - Hammasa Kohistani - is hoping the event will bring her fame and fortune.
But she is hoping to avoid a backlash from Islamic hardliners when the competition kicks off in China this weekend.
On covering up during the swimwear round, 18-year-old Hammasa said: "It is a no-no to me. Personally religiously, family - every aspect.
"I don't feel comfortable so, I'm sorry, I can't do it."
Miss Kohistani, 18, was born in Uzbekistan and speaks six languages.
