Dear ITV,
The complaint I make is about the use of the term " White Trash" in Corrie the other night. Now, I have taken time to think seriously about this line within its context in the scene. But after much thought, I find that this statement was totally unnecessary and offencive to the White British.
I came to this conclusion because if the line had been "Black Trash" there would have been an outcry from Minority groups and minority ethnic associations like the CRE. And I have no doubt that action would have been taken by the police in this matter. Therefore I consider that double standards of the worst possible kind have been used by the writers of this scene. I trust that no future Anti white references are made, and that cultural politics never enter the programme that millions have come to love.
After all, Coronation Street is not a propaganda tool for politicians, writers or directors with a political agenda.
Yours Sincerely
Andrew McBride,
