BEING BROKEN UP - AND IT'S FOR KEEPS
11:00 - 24 January 2006
HOW dare Graham Watson MEP try to put all the blame on our Government for the
setting up of regional assemblies. If we were not in the EU there would be no
mergers of the police, probation, fire services etc. Does Mr Watson think the
people do not realise what is going on? Has he never heard the saying
"you can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all of the
people all of the time"?
The Government is in the process of transferring more of its authority
(sovereignty) to the proposed large regions. The regions are too large to be
"close to the people" or "bring democracy closer to them".
Parish and district councils are closer to the people, but will probably be
abolished. The regions will then deal directly with Brussels and vice-versa,
thus cutting out our Parliament. Ah yes, our Parliamentarians will still
expect to get paid very handsomely, though.
I have received a paper (Inforego News, from the EU) which says "Europe's
Regions and Cities demand a solid
agreement for cohesion". Not national regions, Mr Watson, but the EU's.
Scotland is a region of the EU as confirmed in the Scottish Parliament (May
22, 2001) by Commissioner Dammeyer when he said, "We have to respect that
Scotland is a nation but, at the European level and in the European
discussion, Scotland is like a region." Wales too is a region and Ireland
will eventually become one region of the EU. England will be divided
into nine regions.
Ministers and others have often denied that the UK has been transferring our
precious sovereignty. It is not permanent, they say, sovereignty is
"pooled", it is "shared". They can strike down the EU from
acting in this country simply by repealing the European Communities Act.
There is nothing temporary about the break-up of the UK, it is for keeps. Like
Humpty Dumpty, once it has been broken up it can never be put together again.
The people are getting angry, not only about their country being broken up but
the sneaky way parts of the EU Constitution are being implemented in spite of
the no votes. The people fought for their country in the 1940s, and we were
not worrying about regions then, Mr Watson; we were too busy fighting so that
our flag would not be replaced by the swastika or any
other flag.
