Farmers letters
Charles Clover - Daily Telegraph
Half the arable farmland in the east of the country must be converted to grass within six years to avoid huge fines for pollution from the European Court, the Government has been warned. Researchers have concluded that the land must go back to what it was in the Middle Ages if new EU rules on reducing nitrate pollution in water are not to be breached. I
have been going on about this for years.
They could not starve us (not quite) by sinking all our
ships with food and radios and tanks therein. We managed to cultivate just
enough here to outwit and out-torpedo them, in the end.
I remember being taught, by a geography teacher in 1960,
Mr Mitchell, who told us in 3-A that "The UK is THE MOST EFFICIENT MECHANICAL
FARM IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD. OUR TONNAGES PER
ACRE
OF ARABLE CROPS FAR, FAR OUTSTRIP EVEN CANADA! AND THE REGION OF EAST ANGLIA IS
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN. SOME FARMS IN CAMBIDGESHIRE ACHIEVE 6 TONS PER ACRE OF
GRAIN CROPS."
If I was to teach this now, I would be arrested for being
some sort of deviant child-molester who hated "real" or "organic" food, and who
wanted to poison babies.
But I am, in my demented old age, convinced that our
enemies, in
Brussels a bit but especially here in the Town Halls and in Westminster, want us
dead; or at least our culture and philosophy which amounts to the same thing in
the end. DD
