Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is clearly banking on  a) the US being too exhausted with Iraq to have the commitment to deal with this nauseous piece of garbage and b) equally clearly convinced that allah and his messenger (lol) are wholly behind him as, in fact is the majority of Iranian mullahdom.  There appears to be yet another delusion of the west that the Iranians are somehow "thirsting to be free of the restrictions of the mullahs and the oppression of islam" etc etc. this is of course idiocy. The only people wishing to be free of allah's dubious benison are of course the educated middle classes (and not a lot of them) effectively disenfranchised when the Great Bearded Murderer shot to power in 1979 (something else the French were partly responsible for).  It should be obvious to most people that the Iranians regard themselves as the standard-bearers of the lurrve of allah, over the corrupt Saudis etc etc, and are in fact solidly, and with their usual muslim ovine ignorance, behind their disgusting president.  If the US had spent a bit more time bothering about iran and a lot less about the already-efectively-neutralised Sadam Hussein, the world would be a rosier place.  I posted recently about the misplaced concern shown for the kurds and the antics of this abhorrent tribe with regard to anyone who crosses their path. In the light of their history, one tear shed for these people is one tear too many, best save them for the people of Darfur and Chad currently suffering the genocidal interference of Sudan
