Dear . . . .
Having been made aware of the ramifications of the Legislative and Regulatory Reform Bill, which is now widely known as the Abolition of Parliament Bill, (See the Times, February 16th and 21st) I am yet again appalled at the way such major and fundamental changes to our democracy are being surreptitiously passed into law.
This country is rapidly descending into a dictatorship masterminded by a party and a government, which has systematically undermined our traditional rights and freedoms in almost every conceivable field, whilst assuring us that it is doing the opposite. A Freedom of Information Act which is designed to conceal; a Human Rights Act with every single right in the gift of government and which can be overruled by the Civil Contingencies Bill.
We have seen legislation, introduced by a government elected by no more than some 30% of voters, remove the right of protest near Parliament and the use of a 1986 Public Order Act in order to give our police a political role in enforcing politically correct dogma and stifling free speech.
In the meantime, the Muslim protests against the Danish Embassy demanding a violent response to what they perceived as a deadly insult against their prophet is met by a craven and pusillanimous statement by the Foreign Minister and no action whatsoever from the police – apart from the warnings given to two people who were trying to prevent the demonstration.
Obviously, the Muslim protests were breaking existing laws and, equally obviously, the lack of police response to this law-breaking, a blatant neglect of duty, was a political decision motivated primarily by fear of inflaming the situation.
This is a dangerous precedent to set and shows just how far government is prepared to accept the kind of behaviour from a small, but vociferous, section of the population which would not be tolerated for one instant were it to be made by the majority.
So much for our democracy yet again.
Contrast this with the way that Mr Griffin and his colleague are being tried again and again for `inciting racial hatred’ when they demonstrated neither incitement nor hatred and nor did they demand the murder of cartoonists or anyone else who lampooned them.
There is obviously one law for the indigenous British and another for Muslims; those same Muslims of whom 40% or more who want to introduce Sharia Law for their own people, together with ‘religious police’, and even set up Muslim enclaves within our major cities.
When is government going to wake up and see what is happening in this country? When is government going to take action against those who incite murder and destruction both here and abroad? When is government going to protect the basic rights of the indigenous people of this country instead of doing all it can to remove them?
It is time to provide answers for the people rather than introduce more laws to prevent awkward questions.
Yours sincerely,
