Christianity isn't compatible with Islam
"I
am an active Christian," claims, J Parfitt (Letters, December 5).
One would think that from a committed atheist's point of view the
demise of Christianity would be welcome. And perhaps it would be but for
two very important factors.
Firstly, it is a sad indictment of human nature that too few
people seem able to take responsibility for their own good behaviour and
passage through life. They appear to need spiritual guidance and the fear
of ethereal retribution in order to behave like decent human beings.
(Of course that same spiritual guidance also seems to give some carte
blanche to behave like devils but that's another matter.) So, as
Christianity has dwindled society has deteriorated and too many people choose a
dishonourable path.
Secondly, it isn't dwindling for the benefit of atheism.
Islam is marching in with a new, far less benevolent order and Christianity
is too weak to withstand it. This vile and violent religion will not
tolerate the atheists, nor the Christians, nor any other group who choose
not to follow their teachings. They most certainly will not tolerate the
Jews.
For better and for worse Christianity has shaped the society and
the culture that we recognise as our England our Britain; it has been the
cornerstone of democracy in our Britain - in the world!
Now we
are in grave and serious danger of losing everything which we recognise as ours,
including the free speech to criticise all religion, freedom to worship as we
wish, or not, and the values that our society has developed and holds dear.
Ironically it is practising Christians who have choreographed their own demise. They have developed the liberal values, preached by Christ, to such an extent that they have been unable to withdraw the friendly and helping hand even as it is being chopped off. Just last week this appeared in the Times: These well meaning Christians
