"Anti-corruption website becomes target for criminal investigation"

A North East website has become the target for a criminal investigation by Northumbria Police.  After nearly two years of operation the website
(www.dadsplace.co.uk) has become the subject of an enquiry that is seeking to establish that it is funded by a political party, an arrangement that is illegal in Britain.  Insiders have revealed that Northumbria Police were tipped off to an alleged breach of the law after the Labour Party North became worried that support for the website was growing along with the site's message to not vote Labour.  The Labour Party have become so worried that they have paid to have signs displayed all over the City of Sunderland declaring "Securing the future of Sunderland - vote Labour".

The website alleges high level corruption in Sunderland, a City which is gaining a name for being one of the most corrupt local authorities in the United Kingdom.  Details are given of specific acts of corruption, nepotism and fraud and many of the cases are well documented and witnessed by those who work within the Council.  One of the key cases presented on Dadsplace.co.uk relates to Sunderland Council's decision to sell off its 36,000 council homes for £6,200 each to the Registered Social Landlord Sunderland Housing Group who have also become a major opponent of Dadsplace, spending an estimated £210,000 to have the site shut down.

In a bid to progress the enquiry, Northumbria Police are poised to swoop on several homes in Wearside to arrest the alleged ring leaders of the site.  Last night a spokesperson for the website said "it is not illegal for an individual to make statements of fact about candidates standing in elections and the statements made on our website are well researched and indeed factual.  However it seems that Northumbria Police have been led to believe that Dadsplace is funded and backed by a political party or individual with political interests in the area; we can confirm that this is not the case."

Dadsplace.co.uk has been subject to several legal threats by several law firms, including Dickinson Dees and more latterly London media and defamation specialists Olswang who have sent letters to over twenty innocent people, many of whom have apparently contacted media and human rights lawyers Carter-Ruck.  Carter Ruck are believed to be considering handling the cases against Olswang and their client, Sunderland Housing Group.  This latest development is just one in a long line of actions taken to try and stop the website but a site insider has confirmed that they will continue to present information online to "expose corruption and injustice" and they also confirmed that they would "co-operate fully with any investigation by
Northumbria Police".

Note to Editors:

Dadsplace was founded in July 2004 as a user contribution based site and was anticipated to be a forum for be-troubled fathers and mothers to share information and support in trying to gain access to their children.  It rapidly evolved however into a website fighting corruption and injustice and this was largely due to observations of local political and social dynamics in the City of Sunderland.  Dadsplace expanded to include stories and features from anywhere in the country and indeed world and offers a platform to anyone to share their experiences with others thereby raising awareness of contemporary issues which would otherwise remain hidden.
Dadsplace.co.uk is not affiliated to, or a part of, any other organisation, group or political party and is purely self-funded.
